SUBJECT : BE ONE OF THE RECIPIENTS UNDER THE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INSTRUCTORS’ ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM (SIKAP) GRANT

The Commission recently released the Guidelines for the Scholarships for Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP) Grant (CMO No. 06, s. 2020). This scholarship grant is exclusively open to all teaching personnel of higher education institutions in the country. The eligibility criteria, grant mechanics, selection process, financial privileges and incentives, among others are provided for under the same CMO.
While the Commission acknowledges the contribution of previous faculty development initiatives, which raised the percentage of higher education institution (HEI) faculty members with graduate degree, from 33% in 1998 to 54% in 2018 in the country, there is still a cogent need to strengthen our faculty development program to ensure the global competitiveness of tertiary graduates. Thus, this SIKAP grant was conceived. This program is targeted to increase the percentage of faculty with graduate degrees to 64% by the end of 2022.
This is an important opportunity for all HEIs with faculty members who are not yet graduate degree holders. In Region III alone, out of 12, 000 teaching personnel, 5,000 or 42% of them are without earned masteral and doctoral degrees. It is reiterated that the minimum requirements for teaching in the tertiary level is a masteral degree aligned to the specific disciplines. Hence, the call for application for the SIKAP grantees now.
Relative to this, CHEDRO III is extending the invitation to the teaching personnel from all the HEIs in the Region to continue with their graduate and post graduate programs under the SIKAP grant which is being implemented by the Commission.
In line with this, two batches of forum are set on the following dates for a handholding discussion with the teaching personnel:

All HEIs (SUCs, LUCs and PHEIs) are encouraged to send a minimum of ten (10) faculty members without masteral/doctoral degrees to attend these handholding sessions. Those who will be attending the said sessions are required to register in the above links provided.
