PADYAK! Para sa Flexible Learning: Sama-Samang Vaccination Program at Tarlac State University

Tertiary students in the province of Tarlac queued for the school-based COVID-19 vaccination on Saturday, 23 October 2021 as higher education institutions (HEIs) prepare for the expansion of limited face-to-face classes. Through the caravan piloted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Health (DOH), two thousand five hundred (2,500) students of Tarlac through the Tarlac State University received their first dose of Moderna vaccine.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson, J. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III who graced the event said that by increasing the levels of safety for everyone in the HEIs, the gradual opening of face-to-face classes is surely possible. While the urgent need for hands-on experience is undoubtedly significant, the safety of the students is also a reason behind the aggressive effort of the government to vaccinate all the faculty members, staff, and students in all HEIs.
“This ceremonial vaccination will help us increase the level of safety among students, faculty, and staff especially now that the government targets to increase HEIs that hold limited face-to-face classes,” Chair De Vera said.
Chair De Vera furthered that CHED is fostering good partnership with the DOH Regional Offices, Local Government Units (LGUs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to reinforce vaccination uptake among tertiary students.
Tarlac Governor Susan Yap who was present during the event said, “it is our responsibility to get COVID-19 vaccines which are widely available in the province. All you need to do is line up and be patient to be secured from the COVID-19 virus.”
Also present were CHED Executive Director IV, Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, Congressman Mark Aeron Sambar, CHEDRO-III Officer-in-charge, Office of the Director IV, Dr. Maria Teresita M. Semana, DOH Regional Director, Dr. Corazon I. Flores, DOH Assistant Regional Director Dr. Lailani P. Mangulabnan, Tarlac City Mayor Maria Cristina C. Angeles and Tarlac City Health Officer, Dr. Carmela Go.
