CHED Central Luzon’s 1st Assembly of Sports Directors/Coordinators
The CHED Central Luzon through the Tertiary Sports Development and Management Unit conducted an assembly of Sports Directors/Coordinators on May 11, 2022 via virtual platform. The said assembly was attended by the Sports Directors/Coordinators of participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region III.
CHED CL RO-III Regional Director Dr. Leonida B. Sigua-Calagui warmly welcomed all the participants. In her welcome message, she stated that “A good higher education institution seeks to assist students not only to enhance their athletic ability but also to develop a sense of sportsmanship.”
Mr. Patrick Louis S. Liongson, Regional Sports Coordinator, discussed how HEIs can return to collegiate athletic competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic while following the minimum health protocols laid down by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management. He also discussed the salient features of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 2, series of 2022 with the subject “Guidelines on the Implementation of Return to Collegiate Athletic Competitions (R-CAC) during the COVID19 Pandemic”.
Dr. Roel P. Anicas, Education Supervisor II of CHED CL (RO-III) presented the RA 11180 (Athletic Program Report Act) “An act requiring Higher Education Institutions to report participation and Program Support Expenditures in all College Athletic Programs”. Likewise, he also briefly discussed Mental Coaching on Sports Psychology.
Election of officers for the League of Athletic Sports Directors Coordinating Council also took place. The council will serve as a consultative body through which members can raise matters of interest and concerns to the Commission on Higher Education’s sports development policies and programs under the Sports Development and Management Unit. The following are the elected officers: President: Mr. Abraham Y. Cruz – Meycauayan College Vice President (Internal Affairs): Mr. Jeronie M. Baltazar – Pampanga State Agricultural University Vice President (External Affairs): Mr. Jeffrey T. Jervoso – Angeles University Foundation Secretary General: Mr. Mark F. Bernardino – Richwell Colleges, Inc. Deputy Secretary: Mr. Richard J. Decilio – Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. Treasurer: Ms. Lea P. Reyno – St. Nicholas College of Business and Technology Auditor: Ms. Lorena P. Bermillo – Tarlac Agricultural University
In closing, Ms. Lora L. Yusi, Chief Education Program Specialist, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the participating Sports Directors/Coordinators and asked for their unwavering support to all the Sports activities of the Commission.
